Hill of Tara
St. PatrickPatrick's favorite Saint, for obvious reasons.. Or maybe he just likes his crude gesture.

Walking behind the little church and cemetery at The Hill of Tara
|
We started off day 2 with a scheduled tour, off the beaten path, led by the all-knowing Mary Gibbons (she's famous) . She gave us an informative, yet entertaining history of the ancient people of Ireland.
First we stopped to see The Hill of Tara, which was breath-taking, as this was the first place we were really able to see the Ireland country side. The Hill of Tara is where the high Kings of the Stone age lived. Walking the grounds and thinking about all the history that had taken place in the same spot that we were standing on was just astounding. Oh and if you ever get the chance to visit, make sure you see the fertility statue...you will know which one it is... |
New Grange
The next leg of this day trip took us to New Grange, which is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. We were able to go inside this massive mound, where we saw, first hand, the intricacies and forethought taken when this was being built. We don't want to give anything away, but you get to see just how smart the natives were.
